Implant standards, karat marks and plating details reveal far more than “hypoallergenic.” Here is how to identify what will touch your skin before you buy.

The most useful detail on a silver-tone flat-back earring is not visible from the front. It sits in the product specification: ASTM F136 titanium. Steel also contains nickel.
